
The following are examples of outstanding walks, trails, waterways, and campsites – which all can be found on this website complete with maps to get you there. Our County may not be completely unique in these offerings but there is something special here that is talked about after each outing. Something that gives you time to breathe and feel. Schoharie County… You feel it in your heart and want to come back.
Hiking
Landis Arboretum - Forty acres of the Arboretum are developed with plantings of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous perennials from around the world. The remainder of the property consists of natural areas, woodlands, wetlands, more than 14 miles of trails, and open fields.
Iroquois Indian Museum- Glorious Iroquois Museum with 45 acres of well-marked Nature Trails located just next to Howe Caverns.
Mine Kill State Park – This NYS park offers miles and miles of hiking trails and an Olympic sized swimming pool to cool off. There is a famous waterfall hike that is not to be missed and fishing in the large reservoir is rich.
Vroman’s Nose – Vroman's Nose is a prominent landmark overlooking the beautiful and fertile Schoharie Valley. The view is spectacular from the flat "dance floor” feature found on the top of this distinctive mountain. The hike is easy, very rewarding and great place for picture taking in every season.
Long Path North Hiking - The foot trail from the George Washington Bridge to the Mohawk River on its way to the Adirondacks. This Path from the High Peaks of the Catskill Mountains in Greene County to the Blenheim-Gilboa Visitor's Center, over the Eminence State Forest, past Looking Glass Pond , to Vroman's Nose, on to the Cliffs of Middleburgh, through Partridge Run Game Management Area, into John Boyd Thatcher State Park, and northward to the Mohawk River offers a great hike for the experienced hikers.
Blenheim-Gilboa Power Project NYSPA Visitor Center and Lansing Manor -The visitor experience at Blenheim-Gilboa is a triple play: The science of electricity and hydropower is on exhibit at the Visitors Center. Right beside it, history is preserved at Lansing Manor, a 19th century home. And it is all surrounded by trails, boating, fishing, and other outdoor recreation.
Activities
Cobleskill Golf & Country Club – Members have a love affair with their course that goes back 90 years. It’s a well-known fact that many golfing fans also enjoy the challenges and breathtaking scenery of this Schoharie County gem.
Mallet Pond NYS Public Fishing – a 17-acre Pond on NYS Public Lands, parking area 1/4 mile north of pond for walking access (not accessible by vehicle), marked hiking & snowmobile trails. Stocked with brown/rainbow trout and largemouth bass. Trout can be taken through the ice during winter.
Schoharie Valley Kayak Rentals - Kayak Rentals, Group Paddles, Guided tours and shuttle service on the Schoharie Creek and surrounding waterways. Group discounts. Come to enjoy a wonderful time on the gorgeous Schoharie Creek and surround yourself with beauty!

Campgrounds
Max V. Shaul Campgrounds -Max V. Shaul State Park is a small, quiet camping area with 30 wooded tent and trailer sites. The park has shady picnic grounds, as well as playing fields and a playground. There is a nature and hiking trail as well as a car top boat/fishing access trail to the Schoharie Creek.
Nickerson Park Campgrounds -Nickerson Park Campground is a family friendly, privately owned campground in the Catskills. Come enjoy camping along the Schoharie Creek. Group and motor coach friendly and new dog park available. This Campground offers lots of activities for the whole family to enjoy - stay and relax and meet great people!

Hide-A- Way Campgrounds - Open mid-May through mid-October for family camping. Bring your family to this wonderful and relaxing campground where you can relax by the heated pool or enjoy fishing in our pond. Our 17-acre part is near many points of interest in Schoharie County including Howe Caverns and Secret Caverns, Iroquois Museum, and great shopping experiences. The scenery is gorgeous in Schoharie County!

Waterfalls Campgrounds - Lovely campground has been in operation since 1982. The Waterfall is spectacular, and camping is divine. Open May 15 – October 1.
